You can buy all what you need for your life in Oberderdingen. The next big city is 45km far away, with a very good train and car connection. There is one big street to buy all, clothes, food, electronics,... No blocks with 1000 of little shops.
I like Oberderdingen more than Vancouver, because it is not so full, less cars. The life is like in a village and not in city a city like Vancouver.
The people are friendly, but not so friendly as in Vancouver. They are just at an other way friendly. Swabia people, in German 'Schwaben', are very economize with money and words.
In Oberderdingen is a big global company with the main-quarter in our city, called "E.G.O". The taxes from this company are good for us. A lot of streets were rebuild and the infrastructur is very good.
The quality of products in Germany are better than in Vancouver/America. The American-quality isn't really bad, but the German quality is just better :p.
The food in Germany is at the most time selfmade. My homestay use all the time food by factories, finished chicken, finished cookies, all is finished. I'm not sure about the fried egg, the egg is already finished at the time I go to the breakfast. Are they any finished fried eggs in a superstore for the microwave? The food in my homestay is not fattening, it is okay, but not selfmade. If you eat all the time selfmade food, it is hard to change your food, my maw wants to go back to Germany for better food. Chinese food is the best compromise between fast food and selfmade food. Regulary I will eat some Chinese or Asian food in Vancouver. At one time I was in Mc Donalds, but it smells so fad, I had to go out for fresh air.
For hard facts, you can go to http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberderdingen, the english wikipedia page is to empty, sorry ;)

Haha. Very funny. It's too bad you're not in Vancouver longer. We could take you to some restaurants where the food is made fresh!
Some useful expressions.
Food made 'from scratch' is not ready-made. You make it yourself at home. 'Prepared' or 'ready-made' food is the kind your homestay family buys.
